Design advice
We divide our carpet ranges into three main areas: Plains, Patterns and Naturals. Each has its own personality and charm, but all are made with the same quality and attention to detail. The variety we offer can meet any idea you have for decorating your home.
Our four Plain ranges all have different textures, but they all form the perfect neutral background, allowing you to run riot with patterns, or use other plain elements for a restful look. Naturals encompasses a huge variety of textures and graphic patterns, in a muted modern palette, for the style you'd associate with natural floor but with the softness and comfort of wool. Finally, our Patterns can help you to achieve any look for your home, from contemporary to antique, in a vast array of rich colours.

plains
Plain doesn't have to mean totally plain: while velvets like Brintons Majestic are really smooth, heather finishes (found in the Bell Twist range) are created by coloured flecks in the yarn that you only see when you look closely. These flecks can provide you with two or three other coordinating colours for your scheme. The Finepoint range has a textured twist for a subtly smooth finish, while Duet is made using a tufting process for an affordable but stylish carpet.

patterns
We love to make carpet, but we especially love a beautifully-designed pattern. Whether you're looking for something that says modern luxury, antique grandeur, eastern intricacy, or country house charm, Brintons can help. Each design will provide a wonderful basis for decorating schemes that make a real statement.

naturals
We offer two Naturals ranges. Our Life collection is a wool-rich selection of textured finishes, from nubbly to smooth, that combine neutral good looks with comfort. Pure Living brings pattern up to date, with designs featuring spots, stripes and checks that are incredibly easy to co-ordinate throughout your home.
designing from the floor up

colour
Colour is a personal thing and it's important to choose shades you can live with – rather than something that's 'in fashion'. Take time to think about colours that you like.
location
Is the area high traffic, or is it a room used for relaxing? Choose accordingly: patterns are great for areas next to the wet and dirty outdoors, while pale plains are perfect for luxury rooms.
budget
Very few of us have unlimited funds, so spend available money on what will get the hardest wear – top quality carpets and furniture will always repay the investment.
proportion
Apply a 60:30:10 rule: 60 per cent in a dominant colour; 30 per cent in a secondary tone; and 10 per cent in an accent shade, for accessories or splashes of colour.
light
You can't change the direction your room faces, so it's vital
to work out the prevailing light. Then use colour to balance it:
eg, warm shades for north-facing, cool tones to balance glare.
dimension
You can play visual tricks with colour: light colours 'recede' walls, darker tones bring them nearer. Small rooms appear larger in a pale scheme: or cosy up areas with warm colour.
