Fleece to floor - British wool carpet
The highest standards of materials and processes are used to create the finest wool carpets.Brintons Carpet - Fleece to Floor
We’re passionate about the products we make and the quality we insist upon has been central to Brintons since 1783. To achieve the beautiful, durable carpets we're known for we control every stage of production and source premium quality materials.
Wool is the ultimate sustainable choice for flooring. It insulates your home, it's easily recyclable and biodegradable, plus shearing sheep is essential for their welfare. Back in the 50s, we invented the ‘Brintons Blend’, which combines 80% wool with 20% nylon for the perfect combination of softness and durability. We still use this blend today because it has all the beauty of wool, in a longer-lasting form.
"The wool from 1 in 9 British sheep ends up in a Brintons carpet!" Tim Booth - British Wool
Brintons is actually British wool's single biggest user and we are also proud to be associated with the Campaign for Wool. This is a global endeavour initiated by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural and sustainable benefits offered by wool. After selecting only the best wool, fleeces are washed, stretched and dried. This is then carded, spooled and spun before being twisted into our high quality yarn. The yarn is then bathed in vats of dye to add colour and then positioned on the looms ready for weaving. We design and build all our own looms and by completely controlling the manufacturing process we can use all our experience and knowledge to mix the best-quality raw materials in the perfect blend. We know woven carpets are the best so we manufacture two constructions - Wilton, which is great for textured plains and Axminster, which creates superior pattern definition. For a patterned carpet the loom picks up the yarn as it needs each colour, and weaves it into a design line by line. Regardless of pattern or plain every metre of Brintons carpet is inspected by eye twice, and finished by hand before it leaves the factory.
