Prophecy

Dark interiors are having a moment and our latest moodboard takes inspiration from the unknown, drawing on ideas of prophecy, magic and mystic happenings.

You can feel cocooned and comforted in a dark space and adding a spiritual element can make it both personal and exciting. Juxtaposition of old and new accessories is welcome and quirky or eye-catching pieces are a must. You don’t have to go too far down the gothic route with this style but use it subtly to create elegance. Painting walls, skirting boards and picture rails in the same colour will make your walls seem longer and the ceiling higher for extra grandeur. Abigail Ahern’s soaring popularity has been based around clever curation, dramatic dark shades and eclectic accessories, exactly what inspired us when creating this theme. We chose True Velvet in Jet, Bell Twist in Damson and our Timorous Beasties Midnight Grain du Bois to create our inspiration board above. Wool or velvet textures can be used to great effect to contrast with sheen finished fabrics and reflect light and materials like glass, china or even iridescent stones add to the mystical effect of the scheme. You could even consider panelled walls to keep a timeless sophistication.

The Pantone colour of the year for 2018 is ‘Ultra Violet’ which they describe as; "Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own." Other crepuscular colours like almost black blues, amethysts or deep greys can anchor this theme well and the popular jewel tones that we’ve seen also work beautifully. Creativity and mindfulness are key traits of this style, perfectly depicting how we all feel after a holiday period and as we start to look forward to the upcoming year!
